Several years ago, I was part of a very close knit group of men. We got together regularly for various reasons. We were supposed to be tight. A few of the guys were Odinist, and I thought that I would be able to pull them together to get some work done. This was in the days before Irminsol Heathen Fellowship. This is the story that lead to my part in the creation of the Irminsol Heathen Fellowship.
Most everyone knows my background. I was involved with a bunch of guys with not-so-popular beliefs. I had one close friend that I could have worked with, but he was too busy being “political.” The other guys, the guys in that tight knit group, I came to find out that they thought I was trying to tear apart that group of guys, since the “leader” was a Christian. I assumed (and, we all know what happens when you assume) that Odinists would like to get together with Odinists. It is the same thing as if the Christian in the bunch invited other Christians to go to his church. I guess they were too damn interested in being political.
After I decided that this bunch would never want to get active, I started searching outside of my normal circle of acquaintances. I found one local Heathen that was interested in working together, even though we cam from very different backgrounds. We found a few others over time and began to work with them. We began building a great network of Heathens. Many of these Heathens became close friends and we’ve gained respect for each other. Sure, we’ve had ups and downs, but that goes with any friends, family, and folk.
Now, all those old friends that were afraid that I was going to tear them apart have gone separate ways. Last I heard, they don’t even talk to each other anymore. After all the bitching and moaning they made about me trying to do it, they have seemed to do a great job in tearing that group apart. To Kyle, great tattoo of Odin on your back. That’s about as Heathen as you’ll ever be. Allen, love you bro, but you could never decide if you wanted to be Christian or Odinist. Now that you have passed, you can have it figured out. Michael, you were too young to know what you wanted to do anyway. Seems you were the first to drop out of that group of guys. Chris, goosestep your way to another fight. It’s always been you. One day, that hammer will do more than bust your cheek open. It obviously hasn’t knocked any sense into you.
There are times when you have to grow up, wise up, and move on. You have to let go of the past in order to move forward.
